Trying to Conceive a Baby

If you’re trying to conceive a baby there are some easy tips to follow that can increase your chances of success.

Positions

There are positions to consider during intercourse that are beneficial in trying to conceive a baby and more particularly, a gender.    Certain positions are recommended if you are trying to conceive a baby boy, such as those that allow for deep penetration. If you are trying to conceive a baby girl, using positions that result in shallow penetration is recommended.

Timing

Having sex at the right time of the month will help increase your chances in trying to conceive a baby.  One key factor is being aware of when you are ovulating.  There are several ways to determine this but one very convenient method is using an ovulation predictor kit (OPK).

When trying to conceive a baby, OPK’s can pinpoint your date of ovulation 12 to 24 hours in advance by reading your levels of luteinizing hormone (which peaks before ovulation actually occurs).  What is involved in using an OPK when trying to conceive a baby? Simply urinating on a stick which in turn provides results as to whether or not you are about to ovulate.

Another option for determining ovulation is a saliva test.  When a woman is about to ovulate, her saliva begins to form a distinct fern-like pattern (when viewed under a microscope) due to an increase in her level of estrogen.  This fern-like pattern begins to appear approximately three days prior to ovulation.

When trying to conceive a baby, a personal ovulation microscope enables you to observe the changes that take place in your saliva throughout your cycle. When you are on the verge of ovulation, the visible make-up of your saliva undergoes several changes. The above-mentioned fern-like pattern can be easily identified when examined under the power of a 40X to 60X magnification lens – helping you predict ovulation and peak fertility when trying to conceive a baby.

Avoid Lubrication

When trying to conceive a baby, using a lubricant during sex can actually spoil your chances of success.  Many store-bought lubricants can actually destroy sperm.  That also includes KY Jelly and Vaseline.  If it is necessary to use lubrication during intercourse there is a safe alternative; egg whites.  Egg whites act as a natural lubricant and will not harm sperm therefore becoming a great alternative when trying to conceive a baby.

Avoid Orgasm

Although it is normally very desirable for a woman to orgasm during intercourse, it is not recommended when trying to conceive a baby.  A female orgasm produces fluids that can actually disrupt the delicate pH level in the vagina necessary for sperm to thrive.  The fluids can also interfere with trying to conceive a baby as they dilute the environment, making it more difficult for the sperm to reach the egg.
